UV DTF crystal labels stick to almost any surface with a premium 3D raised effect. But the AB film process has specific steps beginners often get wrong, causing labels that peel, bubble, or fail to transfer. Follow this guide for perfect results.

 

What Is UV DTF AB Film?

- A Film: Clear PET film you print on with UV ink. Carries the design.

- B Film: Clear adhesive transfer film applied over printed A film. Provides adhesive that sticks to target surface.

Together they create a "crystal label" raised, glossy, durable transfer for any material.

 

Equipment Needed

UV printer (flatbed or roll-to-roll), A Film, B Film, cold laminator, cutting tool, squeegee, UV ink (CMYK+White+Varnish), isopropyl alcohol, lint-free cloth.

 

Step 1: Print on A Film

 

Identify printable side: The coated/matte side accepts ink. Test with water spreads on printable side, beads on non-printable.

 

Print settings:

Resolution: 1440x1440 dpi or higher

Ink: CMYK + White + Varnish (varnish = 3D raised effect)

White: underbase behind color for opacity

Varnish: top layer, 1-2mm larger than design for raised border

Full cure each layer before next

 

Print order (for correct transfer):

1. Varnish (becomes top surface)

2. CMYK color

3. White underbase

4. Optional adhesive primer layer

 

Step 2: Cure Completely

Let print sit 2-3 min after printing

Verify ink is completely dry (no tackiness)

If sticky, run extra UV cure pass

Under-cured ink smudges during lamination

 

Step 3: Laminate A + B Film (Critical Step)

 

1. Set laminator to COLD, medium pressure

2. Clean rollers with alcohol

3. Cut B film to size (slightly larger than A film)

4. Peel B film protective liner to expose adhesive

5. Align B film (adhesive down) over printed A film

6. Start at one edge, squeegee from center to edges

7. Feed through cold laminator twice

8. Check for bubbles small bubbles work out with squeegee, large bubbles = relaminate

 

Quality check: Clear, no haze, no bubbles, B film adheres firmly.

 

Step 4: Cut Labels

Cut around each design with scissors or plotter

Leave 2-3mm clear margin for easier application

For complex shapes use contour cut plotter

 

Step 5: Apply to Target Surface

 

Surface prep:

1. Clean with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol

2. Wipe with lint-free cloth

3. Let dry 1-2 min

4. Surface temp: 18-30°C (65-86°F)

 

Application:

1. Peel A film (clear PET backing). Design + adhesive stays on B film carrier.

2. Position label on surface, adhesive down

3. Press firmly from center to edges with squeegee

4. For curved surfaces: use heat gun on low (30-40cm) to soften and conform

5. Peel B film carrier slowly at 180° angle (pull flat, not up)

6. If label lifts with B film, press back down and peel slower

7. Re-press with squeegee after B film removed

 

Post-application: Let cure 24 hours before heavy use/washing. Outdoor: wait 48 hours.

Professional Tips

1. Always test on your target material first different surfaces need different adhesive strength.

2. Varnish creates the 3D crystal effect without it labels look flat.

3. Store films at 18-25°C, 40-60% humidity, away from sunlight. Expired B film loses tack.

4. Work in clean area dust between films causes visible spots.

5. Use right B film type: standard (smooth surfaces), high-tack (rough/silicone), stretch (curved/3D), outdoor (UV-resistant).
