What Are DTF Hot Peel and Cold Peel Film?

There are two DTF PET film from the fabric in two different ways: cold peel film and hot peel film. The digital printing market is filled with different kinds of films, such as mattee film, glitter film and tear in seconds film. DTF hot-peel film has been the hottest film that being asked many times by clients. Cold peel (cold-split) and hot peel (hot-split) transfers are the two main methods used to transfer patterns.

Cold Peel Film

When using the cold peel technique, customers should wait for some time to peel off the transfer film. On the contrary, hot peel film can be peeled immediately. Some people consider it’s a good product for shorter peeling time, while others take issue with this idea for the reason that hot peeling film has unstable quality. What are the differences between cold peel film and it? And which one is the better? Here, we can do an analysis from several angles as shown below.

Hot Peel Film

1.Composition

In order to obtain better release effect, wax coating is added to the hot peel film. Wax is hard to melt and daub evenly, so the requirements for coating process are stricter.

Cold Peel film, the coating is mainly made of silicon. Silicon is easier to melt than wax, and fits the film better. This is why cold tear film is more stable than hot tear film on the market.

2. Pressing temperature and cooling time

The temperature of hot peel film usually is usually between 140-160°C in 5-15 seconds.

Cold peel usually required pressing temperature is higher than hot peel film, generally at 150-170°C, 10-20 seconds, which needs to be determined according to the specific situation.

In terms of the waiting time from pressing to peeling, the hot peel film has an absolute advantage. The hot peel film can be peeled off immediately, while the cold peel film takes 30s to 1 minute.

3. Fabric and washing fastness

In terms of fabric material, some special fabrics, such as tarpaulins, coated fabrics and other fabrics are very thin, and the coating is a gel-like material, so only cold peeling film can be used, so that it has enough time to restore properties. Adhesion and flatness after hot pressing (hot peeling is easy to wrinkle and warp, causing material scrap). Other rough-textured fabrics such as canvas and flannel are also suitable for cold peeling. Hot peeling is more suitable for large patterns such as the front chest and back, while the cold peeling is suitable for thinner lines such as the back collar and letters.

The hot peel is typically 60 cm wide, and the adhesive layer uses a water-based back coating technique. If the adhesive layer is not torn off in time, the cooled glue will stick to the clothing, making it difficult to remove the film from the clothing. Furthermore, it is impossible to ensure the long-term water washing fastness of the water-based adhesive layer.
Cold peel. The cold peeling specification is typically 50 cm broad. The adhesive layer uses an oil-based back-coating method, which has good washing fastness.

Which One Is Better?

All in all, DTF hot peel film is more demanding on printing conditions, and if you print under stable temperature conditions, you will get the best results. If you have a large order, Hot peeling will save your labor time. You just need to focus on pressing it, you peel it right away with no lag time and you’re getting ready to do the next shirt. It is the simplest and fastest way, which is why we prefer hot peel. We can even complete 100 T-shirts in one hour, which is impossible to achieve by cold peel and other printing methods.

However, cold peel also has its advantages, depending on the application you want to transfer. This subject is debatable because both have benefits and drawbacks when compared. Both cold peel and hot peel produce distinctive finishes and have unique, complex characteristics. It’s not a straightforward yes or no, in other words.

Although standard-looking paper can also be produced, transparent film transfer paper is required for the cold peel to work. It will continue to possess the same qualities as clear paper. On the other hand, hot peel transfer paper will appear from a distance to be printer paper. White or clear transfer paper are additional possibilities for cold peel. But when using cold peel, you can see exactly where you’re placing your pattern!
